Brad Pitt’s zombie apocalypse movie has been granted a sequel by Paramount, after earning $111.8 million at the box office worldwide.
Director Marc Forster had envisioned the films to be a trilogy, so its strong theatrical opening came as good news to him.
In the film’s North American opening weekend, it pulled in $66 million, making it the most profitable live-action movie since Avatar.
The vice chairman of Paramount, Rob Moore, told The Hollywood Reporter “I think the movie captured the public’s imagination with something that is fresh and different,” and “Brad gave a superb performance.”
