Back in June 2013, we reported on a horrible rumour that there would be a 3rd in the series of Taken films, starring Liam Neeson as the man with the unluckiest family in the world. The original Taken, in 2008, was brilliant in its concept and delivery, and proved Neeson was up there with the best of the action heroes. Taken 2 was, and this is being kind, rubbish. The plot was awful, the script was laughable, and it was clearly trying to make a quick profit thanks to the success of the first film. Despite all this, it made a whopping $374 million worldwide, so it was inevitable that a third film would be made.
Cut to today, and a new film has indeed been made, with the first trailer available on line for your viewing pleasure. Taken 3 (or Tak3n to give it its correct title, which surely reads Tak Three N, and makes no sense at all) is seriously going to test the special set of skills possessed by Bryan Mills (Neeson). Family man Mills is framed for the murder of his ex wife, the same ex wife that he has spent the last 2 films trying to protect. Killing and snapping the necks of bad guys is no longer a challenge for ex-CIA operative Mills- instead, he’d rather take on the entire FBI, LAPD, CIA and anyone else with catchy abbreviations, as he tries to clear his name, track down the real killers and protect the only thing left alive that’s important to him- his daughter Kim (Maggie Grace).
Also starring Forest Whitaker, Dougray Scott, Sam Spruell and Andrew Howard, Taken 3 will be released in the UK on January the 8th 2015, which should give director Olivier Megaton just enough time to realise that calling the film Tak3n is stupid.
