New This Week on Netflix (1st of October)

In what could be a ground breaking new era for Netflix, the number one internet streaming service for films and TV shows, it has been announced this week that it will simultaneously stream martial arts sequel Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Legend on the same day that it is released in cinemas in the US next year. This is the first mainstream film to see Netflix dabble with the concept of it being a movie player, and could see this happening a lot more often in the future. However, with this simultaneous service, users will no doubt see a hike in subscription fees, but wouldn’t it be worth it to see films on their release date?

But don’t get too excited UK subscribers. At the moment, this service will only be available in the US, so UK viewers will have to settle for the usual menu of films no one has ever heard of, except for the odd gem thrown in to keep you on your toes. This week, it seems like the dark lords at Netflix are expecting a high percentage of school kids to bunk off school, with a large number of children’s films and TV series available to download, including Pocahontas, Wallace and Gromit, The Land Before Time and Power Rangers. However, if you find the kids hogging the TV, download Paranormal Activity 4 for them to watch, and you’ll never have to fight for the remote again- although you will be spending most of the time taking your children to psychotherapy.
