New ‘Pacific Rim’ Trailer

Another trailer has been released for Guillermo del Toro’s monstrous summer viewing, Pacific Rim, featuring more metal, monsters, and mayhem.

Whist the previous trailers have focused on the showdown between the human-piloted mega-robots, and the other-worldly monsters which emerged from a portal in the Pacific Ocean, the above trailer places a greater onus on the stock which humanity places in the skyscraping machines. The trailer is slowly edited, bordering on defeatist, until a rousing speech by Idris Elba’s commanding officer, Stacker Pentecost, levels the playing field. Indeed, behind the monsters, robots and apocalyptic overtures is a relevantly uplifting message for us all. Alas, this is then followed by a brutal mid-air collision between a Jaeger and a Kaiju. Less relevant, but decidedly tantalising.

As well as Elba, the film stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Brad William Henke and Diego Klattenhoff, as rookie and veteran literally put their heads together, in a neutral bridge, to pilot a legendary Jaeger in a last stand.

Set for release on 12th July, 2013, it’s almost time to cancel your barbeque to watch the Pan Pacific Defence Corps cancel the apocalypse.
