Back in 2004, cult teen drama Veronica Mars began on US TV network UPN, starring Kristen Bell as teenage detective Veronica. After her best friend is murdered and her father is replaced as county sheriff, Veronica Mars dedicates her life and sixty four episodes to solving the toughest mysteries in the posh town of Neptune, armed with only a camera and a pout.
After three years, the series was pulled off the airways, mainly for being a bit rubbish, and because viewing figures has fallen to an unacceptable level. However, those few dedicated viewers clearly had wads of cash, because only nine months after writer and director Rob Thomas launched a Kickstarter campaign to make a Veronica Mars movie, $5.7 million was raised, and below is the first trailer for the movie.
The film sees Veronica Mars return to Neptune, after moving to New York with her boyfriend to pursue a career as a high powered lawyer. Whilst in Neptune,Veronica has to try and clear her ex of murder charges, whilst at the same time, catching up with old friends and enemies from the TV show at a conveniently organised high school reunion.
Also co-starring returning cast members Jason Dohring, Tina Majorino and Krysten Ritter, Veronica Mars will be in US cinemas on 14 March 2014, with a UK date to be confirmed, where all those who contributed to the Kickstarter campaign can see just how their money was thrown away.
