First Trailer for Joe Released

Nicholas Cage is a fine actor. He’s starred in some truly memorable films, such as Leaving Las Vegas, Face Off, and in probably his most popular role as Cameron Poe in Con Air. Nicholas Cage can also be a rubbish actor, and has starred in some truly awful films, such as The Weather Man, Drive Angry and National Treasure: Book of Secrets. He is a complicated man, and it is well known that in real life, he is just as odd, weird and a bit mental as some of the roles he portrays.

In what looks like a return to fine form, the first trailer for Joe has arrived. Directed by David Gordon Green (The Sitter, The Pineapple Express), this gritty drama set in America’s deep South shows Nicholas Cage apparently back to his best, although his hair has seen better days, as its clearly lost a fight with a large bottle of ‘Just For Men Hair Colourant’.

Cage stars as ex Con Cameron Poe, who finds himself aboard a plane hijacked by other ex cons, and with the help of John Cusack, brings both the plane and the cons crashing down to earth. No…wait… that’s Con Air. Nicholas Cage star as ex Con Joe Ransom, who has a history of violence, and is trying to escape it and begin a new life in Mississippi, once he learns how to spell it correctly. Joe becomes an unexpected role model to teenager Gary Jones (Tye Sheridan, who looks uncannily like a young Tom Hardy) who has his own history of violence, but at the hands of his alcoholic father.

With a thumping soundtrack, and, purely for this trailer, as it is being released in France before anywhere else, French subtitles, Joe looks like being a truly inspiring film, and a welcome return of the Nicholas Cage that we have come to love. Joe is set for release in the UK on the 25th of July.
