First Poster For Mr Turner

A new poster has appeared on line for the Palme d’Or nominated Mr Turner, starring Timothy Spall as the famous British landscape painter J.M.W. Turner. Spall deservedly won the Best Actor Award at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival for his portrayal of the artistic genius.

As you can see from the poster, his favourite colour is orange, unless he specialised in painting pictures of the surface of the sun. The film is set towards the end of Turner’s life, which was scattered with bouts of severe depression brought on by the death of his father, the only person that Turner was said to be close to. Turner was known as the “painter of light”, and was responsible for elevating landscape painting to one of the most highly regarded forms of art. His famous last words were “The sun is God”, uttered on his death bed at his mistresses house. His mistress may of course have misheard him, and he may have said “the sun is hot”, and merely wanted moving out of direct sunlight, but the world will never know.

Directed by Mike Leigh, and co starring Dorothy Atkinson, Paul Jesson and Martin Savage, Mr Turner  is released in the UK on the 31st of October 2014.
