Eddie Redmayne is tipped to play Stephen Hawking in a new biopic by Oscar-winning director James Marsh. Named after Hawking’s bestselling novel, The Theory of Everything, the film could become the most critically acclaimed biopic of the physicist made to date.
Hot off the set of Les Miserables, Redmayne is currently being considered for the part of Hawking, who made his incredible scientific discoveries at Cambridge in the early 60s. While studying for his PhD he was diagnosed with motor neurones disease, which he thought would take his life. Now 71, he is considered one of the greatest physicists the world has ever known.
Director James Marsh is best-known for his Oscar-winning documentary Man on Wire. Last year he directed Shadow Dancer, a film set during the Troubles in Ireland.
