Del Toro wants Cumberbatch for Frankenstein film

Speaking in an interview with The Telegraph, Guillermo del Toro has announced that he intends on directing a film of Frankenstein, with Benedict Cumberbatch playing the monster.

The Pacific Rim director is also finalising the script for a new version of ‘Beauty and the Beast’, starring Emma Watson as Belle.

Cumberbatch knows the character of the monster well after playing him in Danny Boyle’s stage version at The National Theatre last year.

Del Toro is one of several directors planning versions of Mary Shelley’s book. Daniel Radcliffe is also down to play the monster in a yet untitled project while early next year ‘I, Frankenstein’ directed by Stuart Beattie (Pirates of the Caribbean) will be released.
